THE PERFORMANCE

Chambre noire is a wild hallucination around the death-bed of Valerie Solanas (1936-1988): the most beautiful girl in America, the talented psychology-student who spent her life in and out of mental institutions, the first intellectual whore, writer, radical feminist, creator of the SCUM Manifesto, the woman who shot Andy Warhol… A character that is complex, multi-sided, outrageous and profoundly human.

Inspired by Sara Stridsberg´s novel “The dream faculty”, this performance is a duo with puppeteer Yngvild Aspeli and percussionist Ane Marthe Sørlien Holen.

With life-sized puppets, broken songs, video-projections, a good dose of humor and a desert of loneliness.

Visual theatre, live music, life-sized puppets and video.

PRESS

The festival’s winning performance, all of which ran to see, was Chambre Noire (…) It is a story of abuse, destruction and evil, and will probably go around the world as the new star show in the puppet theater
— Periskop • Anne Helgesen (october 2017)
“But if you haven’t experienced this French-Norwegian company before (…) you don’t yet know how viscerally haunting its puppetry can be. These ugly-beautiful full-size human stand-ins aren’t just lifelike; they can insinuate their way right to your core. (…) a stunning work of art — a deeply compassionate remembrance of a furious, unbalanced woman who took aim at a Great Man.”
— — THE NEW YORK TIMES • LAURA COLLINS-HUGHES (JANUARY 2019)
“A jewel of a performance – dark, a bit grunge and ramshackle; but bursting with beauty.”

— Les trois coups • Marie Lobrichon
